Training in emergency medicine and first aid
Director : Dr Tifenn Boisseau
High-quality emergency medical services and first aid training for a large part of the population are important in any country. The need for such is multiplied tenfold in Armenia because of the armed conflict Armenians face regularly. Many people in Armenia are unfamiliar with first aid techniques, however, and there is no specialty in emergency medicine.
Particularly in the Syunik region, which is subject to geopolitical instability, constant threats and regular attacks, it is vital to develop the population’s ability to deal with crises that include attacks, invasions and the influx of refugees.
Following a fact-finding mission in Syunik in 2022, Santé Arménie created a program to train Syunik healthcare professionals in medical emergencies and, more broadly, to teach first aid to the region’s civilian population.
This training program has four main areas of focus and each course is tailored to its target audience:
- First aid training for the population of Syunik
- Training sessions in Syunik’s educational structures, targeting high school students in particular
- Training for healthcare professionals in Syunik
- Advanced training for professionals in charge of pre-hospital emergency medicine
These training courses, provided by European emergency physicians, have a dual impact. Those who have attended Santé Arménie's training courses will be able to intervene and treat medical emergencies. They also will have acquired skills they can pass on to their peers.
